Valpo Wins One of Three at Quadrangular Meet

Valparaiso kicked off its dual meet season on Sunday defeating Butler but falling to Saint Louis and Evansville in quadrangular action in Carmel, Ind.

The Crusaders posted a 118-85 win over Butler but fell 115-97 to Evansville and 124-86 against Saint Louis.

Anna Kampling (Iowa City, Iowa/West H.S.) posted an individual victory for the Crusaders in the 50 free while Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) triumphed in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55:03.

Valpo's women also won the 400 free relay in convincing fashion, by nearly five seconds. Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.), Majercik, Amanda Gregory (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.), and Katy Smethurst (Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Ledge H.S.) finished in a time of 3:39.08.

Krause finished runner-up in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.43. She also finished second in the 500 free finishing in 5:22.82. Katie Rader (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg H.S.) also finished second in the 200 butterfly for the Brown and Gold.

Valpo (1-2) will compete in its home opener this Friday at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool against Xavier (Ohio). The first event begins at 5 p.m.
