Valparaiso saw the dual meet schedule come to a close on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 147-88 meet against UIC in Chicago, Ill., but freshman Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke.
Andracki won the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.25, bettering Ursula Moser’s 1991 mark of 1:06.51.
“Amy’s swim in the 100 breast was just exceptional today,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said.
The Crusaders won three events on the afternoon in their final tune-up for the Horizon League Championships.
The day began with a four-second victory in the 200 medley relay. Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Andracki, Elizabeth Thompson (Norman, Okla./Norman North H.S.), and Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) posted a time of 1:52.27.
Becky Crabtree (Mason, Ohio/Mason H.S.) also earned a victory for the Crusaders, doing so in the 50 freestyle. The freshman posted a time of 24.82 seconds, .26 seconds in front of Majercik, as the Crusaders posted a one-two finish in the event.
Majercik also finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.94 while Dangremond was second in the 100 backstroke with her time of 1:03.09.
“We had some kids swim some different events as we look toward the conference meet,” Tyree said afterwards.
Valparaiso (3-9) will be idle until the Crusaders compete at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on February 20-23. The first event begins at 9 a.m.CST each day.
