Crusaders Break School Relay Record at Xavier Friday

            Valparaiso set a new school record in the 200 medley relay on Friday evening in Cincinnati, Ohio, but it was not enough for the Crusaders as the Brown and Gold dropped an 80-42 decision to Xavier (Ohio).

            The relay team of Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.), and Jaclyn Krause (Rochester, Mich./Notre Dame Prep H.S.) touched the wall in 1:51.60, bettering the old record set in 1997 of 1:51.64.

            “It’s always exciting to break a school record, especially this early in the season,” head coach Bryan Morrison said.

            Becky Crabtree (Mason, Ohio/Mason H.S.) was victorious for the Crusaders in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.16 seconds, 0.20 faster than her nearest competitor.  Majercik also posted a victory, doing so in the 100 freestyle with her time of 54.74 seconds.

            Valpo closed the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay as well.  Majercik, Krause, Crabtree, and Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.) finished with a time of 1:40.45.

            Valparaiso (1-1) will return to action on Saturday afternoon in Carmel, Ind. as the Crusaders face Butler, Saint Louis, and Evansville.  The first race begins at 1 p.m. CDT.
