Valparaiso won three events on Friday evening but it was not enough as the Crusaders dropped their home opener to Xavier (Ohio) 82-56 at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
Grace Arnold (Glendora, Calif./Glendora H.S.) posted Valpo’s first victory of the day with a time of 11:01.80 in the 1000 freestyle, more than five seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The sophomore also finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:27.63.
Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.) won the 50 freestyle for the Brown and Gold with a time of 25.24 seconds and earned a runner-up finish for the Crusaders in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.77. The sophomore also finished runner-up in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:18.93.
Rachel Majercik (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant H.S.) earned a win in the 100 butterfly for Valpo with a time of 1:01.70. She also placed second in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.28 and also the 50 free behind Dangremond with a time of 25.24 seconds.
Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:09.37 and was also second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:34.41 while Karen Berg (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley H.S.) was runner-up in the 200 backstroke touching the wall in 2:24.23.
Valparaiso (1-3) has a month off before diving back into the pool on November 15 in Dayton, Ohio. The first race against Wright State is set to begin at 1 p.m. CST.
