Valparaiso’s women’s swim team posted a third place finish on Friday evening at the Dennis Stark Relays hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
The Crusaders scored 118 points on the night, six ahead of Saint Mary’s (Ind.). The host Fighting Irish won the meet with 220 points, followed by Illinois State with 196 points.
Valpo’s 400 medley relay team of Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.), Katrina Peters (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central H.S.), Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.), and Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) earned a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:20.36.
The third place 200 freestyle relay team of Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.), Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.), Erin Owen (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa H.S.), and Brittany Bencur (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) turned in a time of 1:47.99.
In the 800 free relay, Stefanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.), Alizabeth Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.), Andrea Bretl (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa H.S.), and Rickey touched the wall in 8:26.67 to finish third while 200 medley relay also finished in the same position as Jarrett, Andracki, Bencur, and Dangremond posted a mark of 1:57.97.
Due to scheduling changes, the Crusaders will not be competing at the Ball State Relay Invitational on Saturday, but instead returning to the water for their home opener next Saturday hosting Milwaukee. The first race begins at 3 p.m. at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
