Valparaiso’s women have scored 112 points through two days of competition at the Calvin Invitational and remain in sixth place in the nine team field held in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Crusaders are 18 points ahead of Olivet heading into the final day of action while trailing fifth place Northern Michigan by 34 points.  Grand Valley State leads the way with 662 points, well ahead of second place Calvin’s 261 points.

The Crusaders posted sixth and seventh place finishes in the 100 backstroke.  Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.) finished sixth with her time of 1:01.62 in the finals after her 1:01.11 in the prelims earned her the fourth fastest time in school history.  Shaunna Dangremond (Tucson, Ariz./Sabino H.S.) was one spot behind with her  time of 1:01.76 in the finals.

Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) earned a ninth place finish for the Crusaders in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.79 while Amy Andracki (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect H.S.) was two spots behind with a time of 2:21.02.  Andracki also led the Crusaders in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:08.49 while finishing ninth.

Laura Rickey (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville H.S.) led the way for Valpo in the 200 freestyle with her time of 1:59.86, placing 12th in the event.

Stephanie Ferschl (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago H.S.) had added a 15th place effort for the Crusaders in the 400 individual medley.  She posted a day’s best time of 5:00.73 in the morning prelims.

Brittany Bencur (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) posted Valpo’s fastest 50 freestyle time of the day with her mark of 26.60 seconds, a season’s best for the freshman.

The Crusaders started the day with a 10th place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.  The team of Rickey, Dangremond, Alizabeth Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.), and Jarrett touched the wall in 1:43.70.

Valparaiso will conclude action at the Calvin Invitational on Saturday when preliminary heats begin at 9 a.m. CST and finals are slated to commence at 5 p.m. CST.
