Valpo's Barnes Wins Open Water Race

Valparaiso University’s Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) won the mile race of the Venetian Festival’s Marathon Swim held  at Tiscornia Beach in Saint Joseph, Mich.

The Crusader junior-to-be posted a time of 17:55 in the open water swim, which took place in 60 degree water.  She won the race by 44 seconds.

Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) finished fourth overall in the men’s race with a time of 17:43, finishing third in the 20-29 year old age group.

Two other Crusaders also participated as life guards at the event, Steve Booth (Saint Joseph, Mich./Saint Joseph H.S.) and Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.).
