Valpo Women Finish Seventh at Calvin Invite

Valparaiso wrapped up the three-day Calvin Winter Invitational on Saturday evening with a seventh place at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Crusaders scored 151 points over the three days while Grand Valley State won the competition with 980 points.

Valpo began the final day with a 12th place effort in the 200 medley relay.  Lauren Knop (Geneva, Ill./Geneva H.S.), Natalie Jarrett (Lebanon, Ind./Western Boone H.S.), Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charleow Flanigan H.S.), and Brittany Bencur (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) posted a time of 1:53.73.

Segatto then added an individual sixth place effort in the 500 freestyle with a finals time of 5:16. 47.  In the morning prelims, the freshman posted a time of 5:13.30, the fifth best mark in school history.

Jarrett added an eighth place finish in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:11.86.  She also finished seventh later in the evening in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall in a time of 2:14.10. 

In the 100 butterfly, Justine Barnes (Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams H.S.) placed ninth, winning the consolation finals, with a time of 1:00.80. 

Makenna Cannon (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine H.S.) paced Valpo in the 200 breaststroke, turning in a time of 2:35.20 while Knop turned in the team’s top mark in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.56 seconds.

The Crusaders closed the meet with the 400 freestyle relay.  The team of Jarrett, Knop, Segatto, and Ali Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University H.S.) posted a time of 3:44.63.

Valparaiso will return to the water next Saturday for a dual meet against Green Bay.  The meet begins at 2 p.m. in Green Bay, Wis.
