The Valpo women’s swimming team kicked off the 2022 MVC Championships in Iowa City, Iowa on Wednesday evening with a pair of relay swims, one of which cracked the program’s record book.
How It Happened
- The championship meet started Wednesday with the 200 medley relay, and the quartet of Kenzie Conn (Celina, Ohio/Celina), Sara Strauss (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake), Bridget Pollard (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon) posted a time of 1:48.80 for the Beacons to earn 24 points. The time was good for sixth-fastest in program history in the event.
- The 800 free relay was also held on Wednesday night. Valpo’s squad of Haley Hume (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette), Pollard, Sophie Morelock (Milan, Mich./Milan) and Morgan Markley (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) touched the wall in 8:07.57.
- Valpo ended the opening night in seventh place of eight teams in the team scoring with 46 points.
The four-day meet continues on Thursday. Prelims start at 11 a.m., with event finals beginning at 6 p.m.
