Crusaders Topple Evansville

Valparaiso's women's tennis team was triumphant on Saturday evening, defeating Evansville 6-1.

The Crusaders opened by taking the doubles point. After falling at the top spot, Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.) notched an 8-5 victory at second doubles. The third doubles team of Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jill Dierberg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) posted an 8-2 win to secure the point.

In singles play, Janssen rallied from a set down to record a 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory at the second spot. Danko also pulled out a thrilling 4-6, 6-2, 14-12 win in a super tie-break at third singles. Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North H.S.) regestered a 6-3, 6-0 victory for Valpo at the fourth spot, while Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Scala rounded out the line-up with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.

The Crusaders (1-3) will return to action on February 29 when they begin their spring break with a 12 p.m. CST match at San Diego.
