Crusaders Win Second Straight

Valparaiso University won its second straight match on Thursday afternoon, as the Crusaders defeated Allient International 7-2 in San Diego, Calif.

The Crusaders opened the contest winning all three doubles matches. Mara Sonkin and Whitney Chada posted an 8-6 victory at the top spot, while Rachel Janssen and Jill Dierberg cruised to an 8-3 win at second doubles. Kate Evangelist and Charmane Stansislaw rounded out the sweep with a 9-7 win at the number three position.

Valpo (3-4) then won four of the six singles matches to secure the victory. Sonkin registered a 6-3, 6-2 win at number one singles, while Dierberg won 6-2, 7-5 at the third spot in the lineup. Evangelist continued her winning ways at fifth singles with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win, while Stanislaw rounded out the rotation with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.

Valparaiso will conclude its spring trip on Saturday as the Brown and Gold travels to San Diego Mesa for a 12 p.m. CST contest.
