Valpo Moves to 4-0 in Mid-Con

Valparaiso moved to 4-0 in the Mid-Continent Conference with a 5-1 victory over Centenary on Sunday morning in Chicago, Ill.

The Crusaders opened by taking the doubles point as Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) posted an 8-2 win at second doubles. Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jill Dierberg (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.) were 8-1 winners at third doubles to clinch the point.

In singles play, Janssen posted a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win at the second spot, while Dierberg was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in third position. Danko tallied a 6-3, 6-0 win at fourth singles, while Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North H.S.) notched a 6-2, 6-2 win in the fifth spot.

Valparaiso (8-5, 4-0 Mid-Con) will return to action on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. match against Detroit at Brown Courts. Centenary has finished Mid-Con play 10-15 overall, 5-3 in the Mid-Con.
