Valpo Splits to End Fall Season

Valparaiso split a pair of matches on Saturday as the Crusaders fall season came to a close in Green Bay, Wis. The Brown and Gold defeated Chicago State 4-2 but fell to Wisconsin-Green Bay by the same score.

In the opener against Chicago State, Valpo posted wins at both of the top two doubles spots to gain the first point. Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.) were 8-4 winners at the top spot, while Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) were victors by an 8-4 margin as well.

Danko then posted a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 10-7 win at second singles, while Chada was a 6-1, 6-2 victor at the third spot. Scala earned the team's other point with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 triumph at fourth singles.

In the nightcap against the Phoenix, Chada and Evangelist won the Crusaders' lone doubles match, 8-6, at second doubles. Evangelist also won at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Scala earned Valpo's second point with a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 10-8 victory at fourth singles.
