Crusaders Drop Second Straight on Spring Trip

Valparaiso dropped its second straight match during its spring trip on Monday morning as the Crusaders fell 7-0 to Davidson in DeLand, Fla.

Valpo took one of the three doubles matches to open as Whitney Chada (Downers Grove, Ill./North H.S.) and Kate Evangelist (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) posted an 8-5 win at third doubles. That would be the only victory for the Crusaders though. Monika Danko (Northfield, Ill./New Trier H.S.) and Christina Scala (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South H.S.) fell 8-2 at the top spot while Rachel Janssen (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) and Jill Dierberg (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran South H.S.)

Davidson (5-3) posted wins at all six singles spots as well. Janssen battled to a super tie-break before falling 6-1, 2-6, 10-7 at first singles, while Danko fell 6-2, 6-3 at the second spot. Dierberg dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match while Scala fell 6-0, 6-0. Chada lost 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles while Evangelist posted a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the bottom of the order.

Valpo (2-2) will conclude its spring trip on Wednesday as the Crusaders face Embry Riddle. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CST in Daytona Beach, Fla.
