Valparaiso returned to Horizon League action on Monday afternoon and fell 7-0 to first place UIC at the Northwest Athletic Club in Michigan City, Ind.
UIC (14-4, 6-0 Horizon) opened by winning all three doubles contests by 8-1 scores. Linda Hricistova and Mariya Kovaleva downed Jackie O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./DePere H.S.) and Stephanie York (Elkhart, Ind./Jimtown H.S.) at number one while Elisa Simonetti and Teona Tsertsvadze defeated Kristin Zakiewicz (Bristol, Ind./Northridge H.S.) and Katie Bilyeu (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo H.S.) at two. Ilinca Cristescu and Jana Knoppe won their third doubles match against Brittany O’Reilly (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest H.S.) and Aubree Zdanovec (Appleton, Wis./East H.S.).
In singles action, Kovaleva was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Jackie O’Reilly at the top while Tsertsvadze won by the same score at two against Brittany O’Reilly. Cristescu downed Zakiewicz 6-1, 6-1 at third singles while Knoppe was a 6-0, 6-2 winner against York at number four. Hricistova defeated Bilyeu 6-0, 6-0 at five singles while Kathryn Sharples was a 6-0, 6-0 victor over Zdanovec to round out the lineup.
Valparaiso (0-16, 0-6) will return to the Valpo Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon to host Indiana Wesleyan. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
