Fredlake Finishes with Win; Crusaders Fall 6-1 at YSU


Senior Michele Fredlake recorded a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 marathon winner at No. 6 singles versus Victoria Ferry on Sunday morning at the Youngstown State Outdoor Courts. Valpo fell 6-1 in the season finale as the Penguins completed a perfect 8-0 run in Horizon League play.


Women's Tennis Falls at Cleveland State


The Valpo women's tennis team dropped the first match of its road trip, 7-0, to Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the Paramount Tennis Club. Paige Heuer took Aleksandra Golawska to three sets at No. 4, but Golawska escaped with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win.


Women's Tennis Closes Out Home Slate with Close Loss


Cary Milanes picked up her eighth win in singles play, but it wasn't enough as Chicago State collected a 6-1 win over the Crusaders Tuesday in Valpo's final home match of the spring. The top three singles matches all went three sets.

Senior Kaitlyn Hamel won in straight sets at No. 1 on Sunday morning, but the Crusaders dropped a 6-1 match to Oakland in Horizon League action at the Valpo Tennis Complex.

Titans Prevail 6-1 over Crusaders on Saturday


Valpo women's tennis dropped a 6-1 Horizon League contest to the Detroit Titans on Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex. Kathleen Hebble got Valpo on the scoreboard with her sixth singles victory of the season. She persevered for a 7-6 (6-1), 6-3 win over Valeryia Kulikovskay at No. 2 singles.

The Horizon League released its men's and women's tennis preseason tennis polls Thursday. The men were selected third, while the women were slotted to finish eighth.


Spring Tennis Schedules Released


The Valparaiso men's and women's tennis teams released its respective schedules Tuesday. The men host IPFW on Friday, January 30th at the Courts of NWI in their first home match of the spring while the women's home opener is slated for Friday, February 13th versus Nebraska-Omaha.


Women's Tennis Picks Up Landmark Win at UIC Invitational


Freshman Cary Milanes did something Saturday that no other women's tennis player has ever done at Valpo under head coach Traci Young: beat a Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent. Milanes outlasted NIU's Evelyn Youel 6-4, 6-3 at the UIC Flames Outdoor Courts.


Hamel/Hebble Capture Doubles Win at UIC Invitational


The doubles portion of the UIC Invitational was held at Match Point Tennis Center in Griffith, Indiana on Saturday. Kaitlyn Hamel and Kathleen Hebble teamed up to defeat Northern Illinois' Cristina Alvarez/Abigail Dekkinga 8-7 (3) in the opening round.

Charlie Emhardt and Paige Heuer were both named Horizon League Players of the Week Tuesday after undefeated weeks on the court.


Crusaders Drop First Match of Fall to Marian


Megan Barthels and Paige Heuer improved their doubles record to 3-0 Sunday following an 8-5 victory over Marian's Sarah and Anne Potter. Heuer also remained perfect on the singles side with a straight set win at No. 4. However, the host Knights rode five singles victories to a 7-2 triumph over the Crusaders in Indianapolis.


Women's Tennis Scores Pair of Victories to Open Season


Crusaders defeated Aquinas College 7-2 Saturday morning before handing Davenport University a 6-3 loss in the afternoon. Megan Barthels, Paige Heuer, and Cary Milanes all went a perfect 2-0 in singles play while the doubles teams of Barthels/Heuer and Milanes/Paras went undefeated.


Fall Tennis Schedules Released


The men's and women's tennis teams released their fall schedules Wednesday. The men's team opens its fall slate at the Purdue Fall Invitational Sept. 19-21 while the women's team begin their fall schedule with a doubleheader versus Aquinas College and Davenport.
