Valpo women's tennis dropped a 6-1 Horizon League contest to the Detroit Titans on Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
Detroit received wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles to capture first point of the match.
Valeryia Kulikovskay and Sasha Nionova defeated Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central)/Michele Fredlake (South Bend, Ind./Saint Joseph's) 6-0 at No. 3. Valpo's number-two tandem of Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) and Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) fell 6-4 to Nino Sujashvili/Viktoria Laskutova.
Nionova downed Kaitlyn Hamel (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 to begin singles play. Laskutova gave the Titans a 3-0 lead after her 6-0, 6-1 win against Fredlake at No. 6.
Irina Slizovskaya clinched the match for Detroit by virtue of her 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 4 versus Heuer. Nynke Van Der Groot got past Barthels 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) got Valpo on the scoreboard with her sixth singles victory of the season. She persevered for a 7-6 (6-1), 6-3 win over Kulikovskay at No. 2.
UDM's Anna Davydova was victorious in the final singles match of the day at No. 3, defeating Milanes, 6-3, 6-4.
The Crusaders (3-13, 1-4 Horizon) will get right back at it on Sunday when they host Oakland (3-14, 2-4 Horizon) at the Valpo Tennis Complex in an 11:00 am match.
