Women's Tennis Campaign Comes to a Close Sunday


The sun set on the Crusader women's tennis team's 2015-16 season Sunday at the Valpo Tennis Complex. Cleveland State, which had clinched a share of the Horizon League regular-season title the day prior in Chicago, defeated the Crusaders, 7-0. Head coach Tammy Cecchini will welcome a pair of three-star recruits to her squad next season.


Penguins Prevail over Valpo Women's Tennis Saturday


The Valpo women's tennis fell 7-0 to visiting Youngstown State Saturday at the Valpo Tennis Complex. The Crusaders will close out their season Sunday versus Cleveland State.


Sysouvanh Inks Letter of Agreement with Valpo Women's Tennis


Sun Prairie, Wisconsin native Daosavanh "Dao" Sysouvanh has inked a Letter of Agreement (LoA) with Valparaiso University and is expected to join the women's tennis program as a freshman in the 2016-2017 season. Sysouvanh is a three-star recruit who boasts the No. 4 ranking in the state of Wisconsin, according to tennisrecruiting.net.


Modesto Wins at No. 3, but Crusaders Fall to Detroit Sunday


Freshman Meg Modesto collected a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3 singles Sunday, but the Crusaders ultimately dropped a 6-1 contest to Detroit at Titan Tennis Courts in Michigan. The Brown and Gold will lower the curtain on the 2015-16 season next weekend at Valpo Tennis Complex.


Oakland Downs Valpo Women's Tennis Saturday


The Valpo women's tennis team dropped its Horizon League showdown with the Golden Grizzlies Saturday at the Oakland Tennis Courts by a score of 7-0. Kat Hebble and Paige Heuer recorded their 12th win atop doubles play with a 6-3 dismissal of Tamara Blum/Elizabeth Guy.


Crusaders Suffer Setback at Milwaukee


The Valpo women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Milwaukee on Sunday morning at North Shore Elite. The Crusaders will return to the courts next weekend in the Motor City with Horizon League affairs against Oakland and Detroit.

The Valpo women's tennis team fell in a 6-1 decision to University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Thursday afternoon. The Crusaders will open Horizon League play this weekend versus Northern Kentucky and Wright State.

Pirates Prevail 4-0 over Crusaders in Puerto Rico


The Crusaders closed out their spring trip to Puerto Rico Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to East Carolina. Kat Hebble and Paige Heuer did deliver ECU's Nicole LaDuca/Celia Ruiz their first loss in doubles play of the spring, though, defeating the Pirate pair 6-4 at No. 1. The Brown and Gold will return to the court Tuesday, March 29th at Chicago State.


Women's Tennis Seizes Dramatic 4-3 Win over Sacred Heart


Freshmen Randi Wind and Haile Roach helped the Valpo women's tennis team complete a sensational comeback to down Sacred Heart, 4-3, in Humacao, Puerto Rico on Sunday morning. With the Crusaders trailing 3-2 entering the final two singles flights, the rookie duo outlasted their opponents in third-set tiebreaker fashion for the first team triumph of the spring.

Cary Milanes picked up a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, but it wasn't enough as the Valpo women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Providence in Humacao, Puerto Rico on Thursday.

The Valpo women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Akron on Sunday, dropping a tight 6-1 match to Morgan State in a neutral-site contest.

Heuer, Modesto Win, but IUPUI Scores 5-2 Victory over Valpo


Freshman Meg Modesto scooped up her third singles win of the season, but sister, Bobbi, and the IUPUI Jaguars claimed the family feud with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Crusaders Sunday afternoon at the West Indy Racquet Club in Indianapolis. Junior Paige Heuer also persevered for a three-set triumph, taking a 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 match at No. 2 singles over Sara Sherif.


Hebble Wins Marathon Match at No. 1, but Valpo Falls at Ball State


Sophomore Kat Hebble persevered for a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7 victory at No. 1 singles over Ball State's Carmen Blanco, but the Cardinals downed the Crusaders, 6-1, at the Muncie YMCA. Hebble advanced to 7-6 in singles play following her three-set triumph.


Crusader Women Fall to Bradley on Saturday


The Valpo women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 contest to Bradley on Saturday at the Clubs at River City in Peoria, Illinois. Freshman Randi Wind took Malini Wijesinghe to three sets at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.


Women's Tennis Drops Spring Opener at WMU


A young Valpo women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback to Western Michigan Saturday evening at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Crusaders will have two weeks off to prepare for their next match at Bradley University on Saturday, Jan. 30th.


HL Tennis Preseason Polls Unveiled: Men Tabbed for Tie at 1st; Women Picked 9th


The Horizon League released its men's and women's tennis preseason tennis polls Friday. The men were selected first, alongside the defending-champion Green Bay Phoenix, while the women were slotted at ninth.


Kopfer Signs with Valpo Women's Tennis


Tammy Cecchini's first signee as head women's tennis coach is two-star recruit Jordan Kopfer of Eagan, Minnesota. Kopfer is ranked 7th in Minnesota and 17th in the Plains region. In the classroom, Kopfer possesses a 4.0 grade point average and plans to study pre-med.


Crusader Tennis Announces Spring Schedules


The 2016 spring tennis schedule is out. Three different ranked opponents grace the men's slate while the women's team will head to Puerto Rico to face a trio of East Coast opponents over spring break. The 2016 Horizon League Championships are scheduled for April 29th-May 1st in Ann Arbor, Michigan.


LaBarbera Announces Staffing Changes


Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera announced a pair of staffing changes within the athletic department Wednesday. Traci Young will take over as associate director of athletics for student services while Tammy Cecchini has been promoted to women's tennis head coach.


Women's Tennis Wins Fall Finale at Davenport


The Valpo women's tennis team swept doubles play and took five of six singles flights in a convincing 8-1 win at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday evening.


Hebble Captures Consolation Championship at Bronco Invitational


Sophomore Kathleen Hebble rebounded from a first-round defeat to claim the consolation title in the Heidi Vizgaitis Flight of the Bronco Invitational in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Sunday. Junior Paige Heuer also collected a third place finish in the Sue Weigand Flight.


Crusaders Close Out UIC Invite Saturday


The Valparaiso women's tennis team closed out the UIC Invite on Saturday in Chicago. The Crusaders finished the tournament after accumulating five wins on the weekend.


Day One of UIC Invite Complete for Women's Tennis


The Valpo women's tennis team walked away from the first day of the UIC Invite with five victories. Sophomore Kathleen Hebble went 1-0 in singles and doubles. Paige Heuer finished the day 2-1. Play concludes tomorrow in Chicago.

The doubles tandem comprised of freshmen Halle Roach and Randi Wind won a pair of doubles matches at the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invite in Dayton to help lead the Crusaders to six victories on Saturday. Overall, the Brown and Gold scored ten wins.

The Valpo women's tennis team opened its fall season Friday with four victories in the opening day of the Greater Cincinnati Collegiate Invite. Kathleen Hebble, Paige Heuer, Halle Roach, and Morgan Paras each notched wins for the Crusaders.

Head women's tennis coach Traci Young released her team's schedule for the upcoming fall. The Crusaders will open at the University of Dayton Tourney on Saturday, Sept. 19th before competing at the UIC Tourney and Bronco Invitational in October.
