The Valpo women's tennis team swept doubles play and took five of six singles flights in a convincing 8-1 win at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Tuesday evening.
Cary Milanes (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) and Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) got things rolling with an 8-6 win versus Hannah Murphy and Emily Spiech at No. 3 doubles. Kathleen Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) kept the momentum rolling the Crusaders' way with their 8-5 triumph at No. 1. Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) finished off the clean sweep in doubles after doubling up Steph Ritson and Anne Douwes, 8-4, at No. 2.
Milanes made quick work of Ritson at No. 4 singles as the sophomore registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Modesto followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 2 versus Puck Luttikhius.
No. 3 singles saw Heuer dispatch Douwes by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Roach recorded a win by that same tally versus Murphy at No. 6.
Hebble rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alyssa Fuentes at No. 1. Spiech prevented the shutout with a 6-4, 7-5 win versus Wind at No. 5.
The Crusaders will have the rest of the fall and winter to prepare for the spring season.
