Crusaders Suffer Setback at Milwaukee

The Valpo women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Milwaukee on Sunday morning at North Shore Elite.

UWM's Dana Shannon and Masha Lobanova got past Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Erin Staal (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. The Panther duo of Hayley Marshall and Labina Petrovska followed by snatching the opening point at No. 2 doubles with a 6-1 victory over Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South). Laurie Clark and Alysa Straub upended Kat Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) atop doubles play by a score of 6-3.

Milwaukee recorded triumphs at all six singles flights. Heuer and Marshall went back-and-forth at No. 2, but Marshall prevailed, 7-5, 6-4. Straub clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Wind.

Valpo (2-14, 1-4 Horizon) will return home to prepare for a swing trip to Michigan. The Crusaders will take on Oakland (8-9, 1-5 Horizon) Saturday at 2:30 pm CT in Rochester before heading over to Detroit to face the Titans (4-8, 3-3 Horizon) on Sunday at 5:00 pm CT.
