The Valpo women's tennis team dropped its Horizon League showdown with the Golden Grizzlies Saturday at the Oakland Tennis Courts by a score of 7-0.
Kat Hebble (Sellersburg, Ind./Silver Creek) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) recorded their 12th win atop doubles play with a 6-3 dismissal of Tamara Blum/Elizabeth Guy. Oakland rallied though at the remaining flights to steal the doubles point.
Valpo's No. 3 tandem of Erin Staal (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) and Morgan Paras (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) fell 6-2 to Daria Artamonova/Sofia Borcuti. With the opening point up for grabs at No. 2, Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara narrowly got past Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), 7-6 (2).
Aratmonova popped the top off singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles versus Wind. Guevara defeated Paras at No. 6 by a count of 6-0, 6-2. Borcuti clinched the match at No. 5 singles by virtue of her 6-4, 6-0 win over Halle Roach (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville). Guy defeated Heuer, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2.
Modesto and Celis were engaged in a tightly-contested match at No. 3 before Celis emerged with a 7-5, 7-6 (13) triumph. No. 1 singles required a third-set tiebreaker. Hebble ended up on the wrong end of a 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 marathon.
Valpo (2-15, 1-5 Horizon) will close out its road schedule with a 1 pm ET/12 pm CT matchup against Detroit (4-9, 3-4 Horizon). The Titans are coming off a 5-2 loss to UIC on Saturday afternoon.
