The three Valparaiso University women’s tennis players who are competing in their final collegiate season had a strong day in doubles, helping Valpo take the doubles point from Missouri State in Saturday’s home finale and final regular season match. The visiting Bears registered a 5-2 victory at Match Point Tennis Club.

Czerwonka, Sysouvanh Garner Wins Over Chicago State
Claire Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) and Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) were both victorious in singles and doubles, but the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team dropped a midweek match to Chicago State 5-2 on Wednesday at the Valpo Tennis Complex. Valpo lost third sets in two singles matches and tiebreakers in two doubles matches.

Junior Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) led the way for the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team on Sunday, capturing victories in both singles and doubles. She represented a bright spot of a 6-1 setback to Missouri Valley Conference foe UNI at Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa.

It was an unseasonably cool day by Florida standards on Tuesday as the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team visited Tampa for the first match of this year’s spring trip, but a bad weather day in Florida beats a good day just about anywhere else. It was certainly a good day for Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton) and Jordan Kopfer (Eagan, Minn. / Eastview), who enjoyed singles wins in a 5-2 defeat to the host Spartans.

For the first time this spring, the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team played with a full lineup as the team continued its journey back to complete health. The added depth showed in the results, as Valpo boasted several strong performances in a 4-3 setback to Dayton.

Kopfer Caps 4-0 Weekend in Home State on Saturday
For the second straight day, the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team competed in a match that came down to the wire, but this time Valpo came up short in a 5-4 loss to Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. Jordan Kopfer (Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) capped her return to her home state by winning in both singles and doubles on Saturday, finishing a two-match weekend with a combined 4-0 mark in singles and doubles.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team pulled out a 5-4 victory over Bethel late Friday night in St. Paul, Minn. A lengthy match paid off for Valpo as the team entered the win column for the first time this spring. All five singles matches required three sets to complete.

Once again playing with only four healthy players, the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team fell 7-0 to IUPUI on Sunday at the Northwest Athletic Club in Michigan City. The highlight of the day for Valpo was the performance of the No. 2 doubles team, which garnered a victory.

Valpo Takes Top Singles, Doubles Matches Against Butler
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team picked up victories at the top of the lineup on Saturday afternoon against Butler, but a short-handed, injury-ravaged team fell 6-1 to the Bulldogs at the Northwest Athletic Complex in Michigan City. Playing with only four players, Valpo put together a solid showing despite having to forfeit three matches and insert players into new roles.

Women’s Tennis Falls in Spring Opener
The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team opened the spring slate on Sunday afternoon with a 7-0 setback at Toledo. Valpo played short-handed in the match with two players sidelined by injuries, including a No. 1 singles injury that caused every player to climb a position in the lineup. Toledo provided a quality opponent as the Rockets went 16-7 overall and 8-1 at home last season.

Sophomore Jelena Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove) and junior Jordan Kopfer (Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) will play for conference titles on Sunday, while the doubles pairing of freshman Olivia Paradise (Mahtomedia, Minn. / Mahtomedi) and senior Randi Wind (Park Ridge, Ill. / Maine South) also finds itself one victory away from championship hardware.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team saw three individuals advance to the second round of the their respective main draws following an unseasonably warm first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championship hosted by Missouri State. Sophomore Jelena Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill. / Elk Grove), junior Jordan Kopfer (Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) and freshman Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersvile, Ind. / Center Grove) all advanced in the main draw. In addition, two of Valpo’s three doubles teams won their first-round matches on a successful Friday in Springfield, Mo.

The match was played under a hidden duals format so there was no official team score, but Valpo won the vast majority of its singles and doubles matches against each opponent.
