Women’s Tennis Fall to Furman on Wednesday
Jordan Kopfer started the second set with a 3-0 lead on Wednesday.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team dropped its second of two matches in the state of Florida this week on a beautiful weather Wednesday in the Sunshine State. Furman prevailed 7-0 despite several strong showings from Valpo players.

How It Happened

  • Several Valpo players performed better than their scores would indicate in Wednesday’s match. Meg Modesto (Chesterton, Ind. / Chesterton) built up a 4-1 lead in the second set of her No. 2 singles match, but went on to drop that match 6-4, allowing Furman to clinch a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
  • Jordan Kopfer (Eagan, Minn. / Eastview) also played well including a second set where she jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but again the Paladins (13-1) had an answer, winning six of the next seven games to take the set and clinch that match at No. 5 singles.
  • Valpo continued to play shorthanded, forfeiting matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Up Next

Valpo (2-10) will enjoy a few more days in the Florida sun before returning home for the duration of spring break. The next time the team sees action in a match situation will be Sunday, March 31 against Wayne State at 2 p.m. If the match is indoors, it will take place at Match Point Tennis Club in Griffith, or if the Northwest Indiana weather is pleasant (unlikely), it will be held at the Valpo Tennis Complex on campus.
