Women’s Tennis Opens Road Swing with Setback at Drake
Isabella Schoolcraft played fourth singles for Valpo on Saturday.

The Valparaiso University women’s tennis team continued Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday with a 5-2 defeat at defending MVC regular season champion Drake. This marked the first of back-to-back matches in the state of Iowa this weekend.

How It Happened

  • Valpo won the No. 3 doubles match by forfeit, but Drake (8-13, 2-1) was victorious on the other two doubles courts.
  • Valpo was awarded forfeit victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, so the visitors held a 2-1 lead in the team scoring at the start of singles play.
  • Dao Sysouvanh (Sun Prairie, Wis. / Sun Prairie) played a close first set with Daria Walczak at No. 3, but eventually fell 6-4, 6-0. When that match reached its conclusion, the Bulldogs nailed down the team victory as they had already won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2.
  • Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersville, Ind. / Center Grove) played Sophia Haleas to two close sets at No. 4 singles, but Haleas took both 6-3, 6-4 to round out the match.
