After helping the Valparaiso University women’s tennis team extend its winning streak with Saturday’s victory over Oakland, freshman Allison McConnell (Westland, Mich. / Churchill) and sophomore Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) were named the Missouri Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week on Wednesday.

The tandem continued to play a key role in the team’s success this weekend, notching a 6-2 triumph at second doubles to help Valpo to a 6-1 victory over Oakland. McConnell and Jhaveri have won three consecutive matches and gone 3-1 as a pair since McConnell was inserted into the doubles lineup. Their victories helped Valpo secure the doubles point in eventual team wins over Wayne State, Northern Illinois and now Oakland.

The addition of McConnell has helped jumpstart a Valpo doubles group that has now captured the doubles point in four straight matches. Jhaveri and McConnell’s doubles win over the Oakland duo of Mia Melnizki and Joelle Tabernal helped Valpo nail down its fourth straight victory, the program’s longest winning streak since 2007. In addition, Valpo secured its fifth victory this spring, the program’s highest spring-only win total in 14 years. 

This marks the third MVC honor for head coach Bob Modesto’s squad in the last two weeks alone and the fourth overall for Valpo this season. The Brown & Gold will have a weekend off before they attempt to continue their run of success on Saturday, March 27 with a home match against Butler.
