Tennis Announces Team Awards
Olivia Czerwonka was named the team's MVP.

The Valparaiso University tennis program revealed its annual team awards at a banquet last week. Head coach Bob Modesto’s group handed out four team honors.

Also the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and Valparaiso University Female Athlete of the Year, Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) has earned the team’s Most Valuable Player Award. An All-MVC First Team choice at No. 1 Singles, Olivia was also an MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team performer. She won the MVC Flight 2 Singles title during the individual championships in the fall while teaming up with her sister Claire to take the MVC Flight 1 Doubles crown.

Demi Jhaveri (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) has been tabbed the squad’s Most-Improved Player. She earned MVC Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention after posting 14 singles wins and nine doubles wins this year. She nearly tripled her singles win total and over doubled her doubles win total from the previous season.

The team’s Scholar-Athlete Award went to Claire Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy), who earned All-Select Team honors from the Missouri Valley Conference. Claire was also named the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year as she owns a 4.00 grade point average in the FNP/DNP graduate nursing program after completing undergrad with a 3.51 GPA in nursing.

The team named senior Isabella Schoolcraft (Bargersville, Ind. / Center Grove) its Valpo Award winner. The high honor is presented to the individual who best exemplifies work ethic, attitude, determination, passion, being a great teammate and being teachable and coachable.

The 2021-22 campaign saw Valpo tennis finish with its highest overall and league win totals in 15 years as the team continued its recent resurgence under Modesto’s leadership.
