Cherrington Finishes Fourth in Javelin at Pacesetter Invitational

Valparaiso University’s Jessica Cherrington (Roseburg, Ore./Umpqua Valley Christian H.S.) finished in fourth place in the javelin to help the Crusaders to an eighth place finish at the Pacesetter Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Terre Haute, Ind.

Valpo tallied eight points on the day, while Ohio State won the meet with 184 points.

Cherrington’s toss of 118’9” was more than five feet further than the fifth place competitor to earn the sophomore five points for the team.

Amanda Meyer (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) earned Valpo’s other points on the day. She finished in eighth place in the 400m dash in a time of 59.95 seconds, while placing seventh in the pole vault after clearing 10’0 ½”. Meyer also finished 14th in the long jump with a leap of 15’9 ¾”.

Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) turned in a 12th place finish for the Brown and Gold in the hammer throw with a heave of 140’9” while Mary Frisch (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) placed 11th in the 400 hurdles, crossing the line in 1:08.24.

Valpo will return to action next weekend when the Crusaders split the team and travel to the Drake Relays and the Boilermaker Invitational.
