Crusaders Compete at Canon Invitational

A half dozen members of the Valparaiso women's track and field team traveled to the Canon Invitational on Saturday afternoon to run against some of the best competition in the region.

Amanda Meyer (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) turned in a pair of personal bests on the afternoon. In the pole vault, the redshirt-freshman cleared 10'0" to finish in a tie for fifth, while also running a personal best in the 400m dash (1:00.70).

Freshman Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) also ran a personal best in the 400m with a time of 59.56 seconds, while doing the same in the 200m (27.06 seconds).

In the 800m run, Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.) finished tenth in the field of 34, crossing the finish line in 2:16.60.

Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.) and Elizabeth Kinneer (Brighton, Mich./Brighton H.S.) each competed in the mile, with Mikel finishing in 5:12.14 and her teammate 13.28 seconds behind her.

In the 3,000m, Amanda Lee (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon H.S.) finished 20th with a time of 10:42.28.

The Crusaders will return to action on Friday evening at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill. Valpo's final tune-up for the Mid-Continent Conference Championships will begin at 4:30 p.m.
