Four Crusaders Finish Tune-Ups for Mid-Con Championships

Valparaiso University sent four athletes to the Butler Twilight Invitational on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind. for one final competition prior to the Mid-Continent Conference Championships.

Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) won the shot put by more than 2 ½ feet with her toss of 40'2". The senior also finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 171'6" in the field of 17 competitors.

Karen Morrill (Friday Harbor, Wash./Friday Harbor H.S.) turned in a sixth place finish in the javelin with her throw of 88'3".

In the pole vault, a pair of Crusaders turned in season's best performances. Amanda Meyer (Hudson, Wis./Somerset H.S.) cleared 10'6" to place third while Shile Dayton (Blairsden, Calif./Portola H.S.) cleared 7'6 ½" to finish in 11th place.

Valpo will head to the Mid-Continent Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kansas City, Mo. beginning Thursday, May 12. The first event begins at 9:30 a.m.
