Crusaders Take on Fred Wilt Invitational

In the penultimate meet of the indoor season before the Horizon League Championships, the Valparaiso women’s track and field teams competed in the Fred Wilt Invitational at Purdue on Saturday.

Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) took first in the high jump with her height of 1.64m/5-4.5

Cleo Holt (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) set a new season best in the 60 meter dash with her blazing 8.11, while freshman Hannah Reynard (Jackson, Mich./Napelon) set a new season best in the 200m as she sprinted to the finish in 27.07.

Janelle Wigal (Chattanooga, Tenn./Chattanooga School for the Arts & Science) set a new personal best in the 800m with her 2:30.11 to finish in 12th place.

Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) had two top-ten finishes on the day, taking seventh in the mile with her 5:10.60 and setting a new season best in the 3000m (10:20.79) to finish in 10th.

Juniors Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North) and Michelle Espino (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northside [Goshen]) set season bests in the 5000m to take ninth (19:30.680 and 11th place (19:39.87), respectively.

Valpo returns to the track next Saturday in the Orange and Blue Open at the University of Illinois. Field events are set to begin at 10:00 am Central time, with running events taking flight at noon.
