Valpo Track & Field Athletes Receive CSC Academic All-District Honors
The Valparaiso University men’s and women’s track & field programs had 10 student-athletes receive recognition on Wednesday as College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA) released its academic all-district selections for the 2022-23 season.
Malatlian Wins Pole Vault, Numerous Beacons Set PRs
The Valparaiso University track & field team completed another solid showing on Friday, wrapping up the Elaine Leigh Invite hosted by Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. Tristan Malatlian (Pfafftown, N.C. / Reagan) picked up an event win for the Beacons in the pole vault.
Three Event Wins Highlight Solid Weekend at Indiana State
Three members of the Valparaiso University track & field team took the top spot in their respective events this weekend, part of another strong showing from the program at Indiana State’s Gibson Invitational in Terre Haute. A pair of wins came in the distance while the third occurred in the jumps as Valpo finished in the top half of the team standings.
Seven First-Place Finishes, Numerous PRs Highlight Weekend at WMU
Members of the Valparaiso University track & field program turned in seven first-place finishes, highlighting a weekend that saw numerous Beacons establish personal records at the Jack Shaw Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. The bulk of the team participated in its first outdoor action of the season after last weekend’s meet at Illinois State was canceled due to inclement weather.
Valpo Removes Interim Tag, Names Vincent Walker Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
Valparaiso University Director of Athletics Dr. Charles Small has announced the promotion of Vincent Walker to Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, removing the interim tag from Walker’s title.

The Valparaiso University track & field programs wrapped up an indoor season that featured numerous highlights with Monday’s second and final day of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, cohosted by the Beacons at Gately Complex on Chicago’s south side. The final day featured several personal bests and multiple events where the Valpo men scored points.
Three Program Records Highlight Day 1 of MVC Indoor Championships
The Valparaiso University track & field teams shattered three program records on the first day of the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, cohosted by the Beacons alongside UIC at Gately Complex in Chicago on Sunday. Rhena Kiger (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point) outdid the program record in the women’s indoor pentathlon, while Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) bettered his program mark in the men’s 800 and Evan Walda (Fort Wayne, Ind. / South Side) set a new standard in men’s 5000.

The Valparaiso University track & field program finished up its final competition prior to the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday, the final day of the GVSU Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. It was a prosperous day for a number of Beacons as multiple individuals hit new peaks by achieving personal bests.

The Beacons had several individuals author new personal records on Saturday, including Ignacio Veloz Bonilla (San Juan, P.R. / American Military Academy) garnering a place in the program record book.
Ehm Sets Program Record in Indoor 5,000 at Meyo Invitational
Not one, not two, but three members of the Valparaiso University men’s track & field team outdid the previous program record in the 5,000 on Friday night as the Beacons boasted their best performance in the evening’s final event on the first day of the two-day competitive Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame in Notre, Dame, Ind. At the forefront of the strong showing was Simeon Ehm (Castle Rock, Colo. / Heritage), who is the new program record holder in the 5,000.
Indoor Track & Field Slate Continues at Grand Valley
The Valparaiso University track & field team made its annual trip to Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. to compete in the Bill Clinger Classic, which began on Friday. Tori Gerhardt (Westville, Ind. / Chesterton) finished as the runner-up in the weight throw, while Micah Mullings (Minesing, Ontario, Canada / Barrie North) did the same in the triple jump. Both were among the Beacons who established new personal bests.

The Valparaiso University track & field program has announced its slate for the 2023 outdoor season, which will commence after the indoor campaign culminates with the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Valpo at Gately Park in Chicago in late February.
