After Friday saw two Crusaders move up the program’s all-time charts in their respective events, Saturday saw three different Valparaiso men’s track and field athletes and a relay post top-five marks in program history as the Crusaders closed out action at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.

Valparaiso’s men’s tennis team won its second straight match on Saturday afternoon, opening the home portion of its 2012 schedule at Matchpoint Racquet Club in Griffith, Ind. with a 7-0 shutout victory over Grace.

Valparaiso opened the home portion of its tennis schedule on Saturday morning with a 7-0 shutout of Kalamazoo for the Crusaders’ second straight victory in a match played at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club in Flossmoor, Ill.

Valparaiso remained among the top squads in the nation with the release of the February National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) coaches poll on Saturday, as the Crusaders came in ranked #3 nationally.

The Valparaiso softball team opened the 2012 season Friday evening, but couldn’t come out of the night with a victory, falling to UNI 6-0 in the opener of the Ramada Inn UNI Dome Tournament in Ames, Iowa. The tournament was originally scheduled to be hosted by UNI, but the entirety of the tournament has been moved to Iowa State due to equipment failure at the UNI Dome.

Kevin Adamik (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and Nick Fagan (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) both moved up Valpo’s all-time top-fives in their respective events, while Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) posted a pair of top-six finishes in invite-only events Friday evening as the Valparaiso men’s track and field team opened competition at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.

First-place Valparaiso closes out its Horizon League road schedule on Saturday evening as the Crusaders look to stay atop the league standings with a showdown at Youngstown State. The Crusaders have won 14 straight meetings with the Penguins, including 10 consecutive since joining the Horizon League.

Valparaiso wraps up its three-game road trip on Saturday afternoon traveling to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to battle longtime rival Butler. The Crusaders are looking for back-to-back road victories for the first time since March of 2008.
