Valparaiso recorded a pair of home men's tennis victories on Saturday defeating both Cleveland State and Youngstown State.

In the morning, the Crusaders registered a 6-1 win over the Vikings, winning seven of the nine matches contested.

The Brown and Gold began by winning the doubles point. Chris Widmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller H.S.) and Mike Menghini (Iron Mountain, Mich./Iron Mountain H.S.) teamed for an 8-2 win at second doubles, while Tyler Neemann (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) and Nathan Gordon (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.) registered an 8-4 triumph at the third spot.

The Crusaders then continued to play well in singles action, winning five of the six matches. Jeff Vrabel (Allen Park, Mich./St. Francis Cabrini H.S.) was an easy 6-0, 6-0 winner at second singles, while Widmeyer and Neemann each needed a super tiebreak to win their matches. Widmeyer posted a 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 win, while Neemann rallied for a 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-4 victory. Menghini recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fifth singles, while Evan Roller (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem H.S.) also won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (3), at the sixth spot.

In the afternoon match against the Penguins, Valpo also came away with a 6-1 win.

Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and Vrabel teamed for an 8-6 win at first doubles and Neemann and Gordon were 8-0 winners in the third slot to secure the first point of the match.

The Crusaders also won five singles matches in straight sets. Dunham-Freer was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at number one singles and Vrabel was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at second singles. Neemann recorded a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the fourth spot, while Menghini picked up an east 6-0, 6-1 victory. Roller rounded out the line-up with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph.

Valpo will conclude their fall slate on Sunday afternoon with a 12:30 p.m. contest against Lake Superior.
