Carin Avery Honored with Board Resolution

Valpo volleyball head coach Carin Avery was recently honored by the Valparaiso University Board of Directors with a resolution as part of the board’s quarterly meetings in April.

The resolution — brought forward to the board by Carolyn Schlie Femovich ’71, who serves as chair of the Athletics Oversight Committee of the Board of Directors and who is a member of the Valpo Athletics Hall of Fame — recognized and honored Avery for her outstanding service and accomplishments to Valpo Athletics, volleyball and for the development of female student-athletes on and off the court. Avery will be presented with the resolution prior to the volleyball team’s match the evening of Sept. 13.

Avery has served as a faithful and distinguished coach and mentor to female student-athletes at Valpo as head coach of the volleyball program for the last 22 years. With 489 victories, she owns the most wins of any head coach in Valpo Athletics history. Avery ranks 22nd among active Division I head coaches in career wins and 31st in career winning percentage.

Avery has led the volleyball program to seven postseason appearances — three NCAA Tournaments and four NIVC berths, highlighted by the advancement of the 2021 team to the championship match of the NIVC. Her teams have won three conference regular season crowns and three conference tournament titles.

Under Avery, Valpo has received 18 AVCA Team Academic Awards and been named to the AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll (instituted in 2016) on four occasions. Individually, six players have been AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans and 61 players have earned All-Conference recognition.
