Late Goal Lifts Mastadons to Tie with Valpo

A goal with 1:24 remaining in regulation helped IPFW forge a 2-2 tie with Valparaiso on Friday evening in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Crusaders got on the scoreboard first as Ashley Shaneyfelt (Roswell, Ga./Roswell H.S.) recorded her first collegiate tally lifting the ball over Rachel Poor's head and into the back of the net for an unassisted goal at 30:41.

IPFW (1-1-1) responded at 40:23 as Kristen Macdonald notched her third goal of the season off a deflection of a Valpo defender.

Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) gave Valpo a 2-1 lead at the 54:06 mark as she took a Lori Moore (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) pass in on a breakaway and beat the keeper.

Lindsay Williamson then gave the Mastadons the equalizer in the 89th minute when she scored from ten yards out on the lower left side.

IPFW outshot Valpo (0-3-1) 21-11 for the match and held a 4-1 advantage in the overtime sessions. Valpo held a 5-4 advantage on corner kicks. Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made ten saves between the pipes for the Brown and Gold, while Poor made six stops for the Mastadons.

Valpo will return to action next Friday afternoon when the Crusaders host Drake in a 4 p.m. match at Eastgate Field.
