Kent State Blanks Crusaders in Non-Conference Tilt
Friday, October 31, 2003
A goal midway through each half proved to be more than enough for Kent State on Friday afternoon, as the Golden Flashes defeated Valparaiso 2-0 in Kent, Ohio.

Jenn Frey scored her third goal of the season inside the left post at the 22:02 mark of the first half to give the hosts the lead. The teams went into intermission with Kent State leading 1-0 after the Golden Flashes outshot Valpo 7-3 in the opening stanza.

Kent State (12-4-3) added an insurance goal at the 57:30 mark as Danie Irwin notched her second tally of the year from inside the box to put the Golden Flashes up 2-0.

The Golden Flashes held a 19-4 advantage in shots, including a 13-2 advantage on goal. Kent State also had a 4-3 nod in corned kick opportunities, while committing ten fouls to Valpo's six.

Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made 11 stops for the Crusaders in goal, while Shannon Lynn made two saves in the shutout victory for Kent State.

Valparaiso (3-11-2) will conclude the regular season on Sunday morning with a Mid-Continent Conference match against Centenary. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m., and the Crusaders must win in order to qualify for the conference tournament.
