Northern Arizona Upends Valpo 5-1

Valparaiso's women's soccer team saw its two-match win streak come to an end on Friday evening as the Crusaders fell to Northern Arizona 5-1 in a neutral site match held in Cedar City, Utah.

The Lumberjacks scored the first five goals of the match before Emily King (Colona, Ill.) scored at the 80:48 mark on a penalty kick.

Shelby Gould opened the scoring for Northern Arizona just 5:51 into the match after bending a corner kick into the goal. Jesyca Roshot added the second tally just 29 seconds later after taking a Sierra Cristiano pass in the box and beating Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) one on one from 12 yards out.

Stefanie Smith added Northern Arizona's third goal 48 seconds before intermission from straight out 18 yards away. NAU outshot Valpo 14-3 in the opening stanza.

Rosholt added her second goal of the match at the 63:37 mark, converting on a Valpo turnover of a clearing attempt. Amanda Butterfield added the final tally at the 67:26 mark lofting a shot over Templin's head.

Northern Arizona (2-5-3) outshot Valpo 21-9 for the match, including a 12-7 advantage on goal. Templin made seven saves for the Brown and Gold, while Andrea Berra made six stops for the Lumberjacks.

Valparaiso (2-8) will return to action next Friday, October 10, when the Crusaders host Oakland in Mid-Continent Conference action. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
