Crusaders Drop First Road Match 2-1 at Central Michigan

Lori Johnson (Sachse, Texas/Naaman Forest H.S.) scored late in the first half to give Valparaiso the lead at intermission but Erica Rohren scored a pair of goals in the second stanza to give Central Michigan a 2-1 victory over the Crusaders on Sunday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

The Crusaders and Chippewas were scoreless for nearly 42 minutes before Johnson found the top left corner of the goal from 18 yards out for her first collegiate goal to give Valpo the lead heading into intermission. Allison Swanson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley H.S.) added the assist for her first point of the season.

Central Michigan (1-0-1) tied the match just 22 seconds into the second half as Rohren scored from six yards out. The freshman added her second goal of the match and third of the young season at the 63:22 mark off of a cross from Jacquie Lacek to give the hosts the lead for good.

The Chippewas held an 18-12 advantage in shots, including a 12-5 edge in the second half. Erin Murray (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley H.S.) made four stops for the Crusaders while Anne Decker made two saves for Central Michigan.

Valparaiso (1-1) will return to action on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders host Lipscomb in a 4 p.m. match at Eastgate Field.
