Valparaiso University women’s soccer senior forward Cory Griffith (Lemont, Ill./Providence Catholic) represents Valpo on the Missouri Valley Conference preseason All-Conference squad, as announced by the conference office Monday. Valpo was picked to finish in sixth place in the preseason poll.

Griffith was a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Region selection and a First Team All-MVC pick last season after matching Valpo’s single-season record with 11 goals scored. She ranked among the top-50 nationally in both goals and points per game, and tied the program’s single-season record for a second straight season with five match-winning goals. Griffith enters her final year already tied for first in program history with 10 career match-winning goals, tied for third with 21 goals and fifth with 48 points.

Valpo welcomes back nine starters this season among 20 returning letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished 9-10-0 overall and 3-4-0 in its first season of MVC play, good for a tie for fifth place. The regular season opens Friday night on the road at Green Bay.
