Valparaiso University tennis fifth-year senior Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team, leading a group of five Beacons that received scholar-athlete laurels from the conference office on Thursday.
A decorated and record-setting career ended in winning fashion on Sunday afternoon in Chicago as Valparaiso University tennis fifth-year senior Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy) came from a set down to prevail in a three-set singles match, finishing out an unforgettable era that featured program records for career singles and doubles victories, a Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year award, an MVC Individual Singles Title and an MVC Individual Doubles Title.
The Valparaiso University tennis team recognized its senior class on Saturday afternoon at The Courts of Northwest Indiana as Olivia Czerwonka (Kenosha, Wis. / Saint Joseph Catholic Academy), Mia Bertino (Lockport, Ill. / Joliet Catholic) and graduate assistant coach Claire Czerwonka were recognized by head coach Bob Modesto prior to their final home match. Moira Silva (Houston, Texas / Houston Tennis Academy) earned a victory at No. 1 Singles in the team’s 6-1 defeat to visiting Murray State, a squad that is undefeated in Missouri Valley Conference play.
It’s been a year of down-to-the-wire matches for the Valparaiso University tennis team, which dropped Sunday’s showdown with Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. by a 4-3 score. The teams split the six singles matches after the Bears had picked up a doubles point that proved crucial in the match’s outcome.
The Valparaiso University tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory on Sunday at The Courts of Northwest Indiana, winning every doubles match and all but one of the singles matches en route to the victory.
