Swimming Women Earn Win Over EIU Saturday
Roxanne Adams led Valpo with a second-place finish in the 100 breast Saturday.

The Valpo swimming women’s team picked up its second dual meet win of the season on Saturday, defeating Eastern Illinois as the Beacon men and women took on the Panthers and Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky.

How It Happened

  • On the women’s side, freshman Sophie Schoch (Medina, Ohio/Medina) led the way, pacing Valpo in a pair of second-place finishes. Schoch touched the wall second in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.38 and followed with a runner-up finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.25.
  • Freshman Roxanne Adams (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico/Homeschooled) earned a second-place finish in the 100 breast, covering the distance in 1:10.31.
  • Schoch was one of two Beacon women to lead the team in multiple events, as freshman Olivia Tressler (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Oasis) did so as well. Tressler placed third in the 400 IM, coming home in 4:52.34, and also paced Valpo with a time of 5:32.39 in the 500 free.
  • Valpo defeated Eastern Illinois 107-62, while falling to host Bellarmine 110-59.
  • On the men’s side, two Beacons earned individual event wins. Sophomore Jackson Oostman (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) claimed first place in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:11.58, and later posted a time of 54.15 in the 100 back for a second-place finish.
  • Junior Brendan Stangeland (West Fargo, N.D./Sheyenne) took top honors with a time of 1:00.25 in the 100 breast.
  • Sophomore Anthony Martin (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) joined Oostman in pacing Valpo in a pair of swims, leading the Beacon pack in both the 200 free (1:48.12) and the 100 free (49.33).
  • Swimming solely against Bellarmine, the men fell by a 141-28 final.

Next Up

Valpo returns home for its second home meet of the season next weekend, as the Beacons welcome Green Bay to the Valparaiso Aquatic Center Saturday, Oct. 28. The first swim is scheduled for 2 p.m.
