Trio of Beacons Earn All-Tournament Team Honors
Brittany Anderson picked up the fifth All-Tournament Team honor of her career.

Three members of the Valpo volleyball team received All-Tournament Team accolades following the Beacons’ championship performance this weekend at Tennessee Tech’s Golden Eagle Invitational. Peyton McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) was tabbed the tournament MVP, while Brittany Anderson (East Chicago, Ind./Bishop Noll) and Victoria Bulmahn (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) joined McCarthy on the All-Tournament Team.

McCarthy stood out on the attack for the Beacons throughout the tournament’s three matches. She opened the tournament with a team-best eight kills on just 12 swings for a .667 hitting percentage in a sweep of UNC Asheville, adding a match-high four blocks as well. Friday night saw McCarthy go for 18 kills on .607 hitting in a five-set victory over Tennessee Tech — the second-best hitting percentage in a five-set match in program history and the best in the 25-point era — while tallying four blocks as well.

McCarthy closed the tournament on Saturday with 11 kills and five blocks in Valpo’s win over South Alabama. For the three matches, she averaged a team-best 2.85 kills/set on .471 hitting and an even block per set.

Valpo’s pair of setters each picked up All-Tournament accolades as well for their work running the Valpo offense. Anderson led the way with 20 assists in the sweep of UNC Asheville and 28 assists against Tennessee Tech, finishing the weekend with 5.31 assists/set. Early in the finale against South Alabama, she moved into third place in program history in career assists. Meanwhile, Bulmahn posted a double-double with 14 assists and 13 digs versus UNC Asheville and paced Valpo with 29 assists and added 11 digs against South Alabama. She averaged 5.15 assists/set and 2.23 digs/set for the weekend.

For McCarthy, it was her fifth career appearance on an All-Tournament Team and her second tournament MVP honor, as she was previously MVP of the 2018 Crusader Classic. Anderson also picked up the fifth All-Tournament accolade of her career, while Bulmahn’s honor was her first in her time at Valpo.
