Castator, Waytashek Ink NLIs With Valpo Women's Basketball

Valpo women’s basketball head coach Mary Evans announced today that a pair of high school seniors — Lexi Castator and Kylie Waytashek — have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Beacons as freshmen for the 2024-25 season.

Castator is a 6-1 guard from Fort Wayne, Ind. who played her junior season at Northrop H.S., alongside current Beacons Saniya Jackson and Nevaeh Jackson. Castator helped Northrop capture a conference championship last season, averaging 5.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Prior to playing for Northrop, Castator played at Carroll H.S., where she was a member of a sectional and regional championship team as a freshman.

Why Castator chose Valpo: “It’s close to home and I really liked the campus when I visited. The chance to play alongside my friends and former teammates was great as well.”

Waytashek is a 6-2 forward from Royalton, Minn. who has been a standout for Royalton H.S. She enters her senior year already the program’s career record holder for points and blocked shots. Waytashek is a three-time All-Conference selection and three-time County Player of the Year. She was named to the Section 6AA All-Section Team last year as a junior as she averaged 18.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game.

Why Waytashek chose Valpo: “I chose Valpo because of the amazing coaching staff and the athletes. I love the atmosphere on campus and in the community, as well as the team environment! I can't wait to make Valpo my new home!”
