Crusader Men Close Out Fall Season Tuesday

The Valparaiso men’s golf team took to the links one last time this fall as they wrapped up play today at the Rocket Individual Classic in Perrysburg, Ohio. Three of the seven Crusaders that participated in the event finished in the top-15, and all but one finished in the top-20, giving coach David Gring a nice look at players that will be called upon in the future, maybe as soon as the spring 2015 campaign.

Zach Cutler (O’Fallon, Mo./Timberland) finished as the top Valpo player, closing out the 36-hole tournament with a 78, giving him a three round total of 231, good for a fifth-place finish. Matt Ward (Plainfield, Ill./South) followed closely behind, picking up four spots between days one and two to finish in sixth place with a 232 total.

Adam Baracani (Normal, Ill./University) had the best 18-hole result today for the Crusaders as he shot a 75 on his way to a total of 234 and a 13th place finish in his first collegiate tournament.

Ryan Heck (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls), Michael Doherty (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North), Michael Holevas (Elgin, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic), and Michael Kinsella (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) all wrapped up the tournament bunched closely together in the final standings. Heck finished with a 244, Doherty’s final-round 79 paced him to a total of 246, Holevas wrapped up the fall season with a 247, and Kinsella rounded out his first tournament as a member of the Crusaders with a 252.

Today's final round from the Belmont Country Club closed up action for the men’s golf team this fall. The spring 2015 schedule will be released in the coming months at ValpoAthletics.com.
