VanArragon, Delisanti in Top 5 After Day 1 of Hoosier Collegiate
Anthony Delisanti tied for the second best Round-1 score of any Hoosier Collegiate participant.

Two members of the Valparaiso University men’s golf team are in the top five in a very strong field after one day of the Hoosier Collegiate, hosted by Indiana University at the par-71, 7355-yard Pfau Course in Bloomington, Ind. After frost delayed the start of the morning round, the teams golfed the first round in its entirety, and the second round was halted with four to five holes remaining due to darkness. Play will resume at 8:30 a.m. CT / 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday and the third round will be continuous play at the conclusion of Round 2.

How It Happened

  • Junior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) led the team in Round 1, finishing that round tied for second in the 85-player field after carding a 71 (E). He finished the day at two over when play was halted, tied for fifth in the field.
  • After finishing Round 1 at t-13, Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) surged to t-5 by the time play was suspended, climbing eight spots on the player leaderboard during the second round. VanArragon carded a 73 (+2) in Round 1 and stayed at +2 for the day through the portion of Round 2 that was completed.
  • The remainder of Valpo’s lineup – Mason Bonn (Sherwood, Ore. / Sherwood), Sam Booth (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) and Adam Melliere (Zionsville, Ind. / Zionsville) – all carded 76s in Round 1. Bonn finished the day at +7 to lead that trio.
  • The Beacons finished the first round tied for fourth, behind only Indiana, Rice and Michigan State. The Beacons were tied for seventh at the time Round 2 was halted. The squad boasted a Round-1 total of 296 and finished the day at +21.
  • Northwestern’s Christopher Zhang had a 70 in Round 1 and enters Sunday atop the player leaderboard at three under par.
