Doherty, Seward Lead Crusaders on Final Day of Twin Oaks Intercollegiate
Michael Doherty carded a 74 on Tuesday.

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team completed the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate on Tuesday with the third and final round of the event, which was hosted by Missouri State at Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo. The Crusaders climbed into ninth in the team standings with their Round 3 performance.

How It Happened

  • Michael Doherty (Lisle, Ill. / Naperville North) and Brett Seward (Aurora, Ill. / Aurora Christian) both carded 74s on the final day of competition. Doherty finished as the top Crusader at 223 (+10), tied for 26th overall. Seward’s 54-hole score of 226 (+13) placed him in a 35th-place tie.
  • Mitchell Wittmann (Kaukauna, Wis. / Kaukauna) provided the team’s other sub-80 score with a 77 on Tuesday. He finished with a 229 (+16), which tied for 47th.
  • As a team, Valpo carded a 306 to finish with a three-round score of 907 (+55). That put the Crusaders in ninth in the team standings, four strokes ahead of Creighton and seven behind Green Bay.
  • The Missouri Valley Conference was well represented as Bradley won the event at 861 (+9) and host Missouri State tied for second at 864 (+12).

Up Next

The Crusaders will return to competition for an Easter weekend tournament at Weibring Golf Course in Bloomington, Ill. The D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate will commence on Saturday, March 31 and conclude on Sunday, April 1.
