VanArragon Competes in Second Round of NCAA Regional

Valparaiso University men’s golf fifth-year senior Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) competed in the second round of the NCAA West Lafayette Regional on Tuesday, hosted by Purdue at the par-72, 7461-yard Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. He posted a second-round score of 71 (-1), a three-stroke improvement from his first round to remain in a tie for 28th of 75 on the player leaderboard. He holds a 36-hole score of 146 (+1) with 18 holes remaining.

"Caleb‘s ball striking was better in today’s second round," head coach Dave Gring said. "He hit seven fairways and 11 greens in regulation. Those numbers were an improvement over the first round, but the course still provided a lot of challenge. Even with some slight missed fairways by a few feet, the golf course has very little margin of error and it makes it tough to get the ball close to the hole. Caleb had a terrific plan in attacking the course and he managed the golf course very well, again."

VanArragon enjoyed a stretch of three straight birdies on Holes 6, 7 and 8 during Tuesday’s round. He did bogey Hole 3 and Hole 16.

"Caleb’s short game was impressive again today," Gring said. "He has not had any three putts in the first two rounds and the speed of his putts has been terrific. His chipping around the greens has been very sharp, especially from the sand traps and tough angles around the green. We have a good plan in place for tomorrow and we are looking forward to the opportunity! We’re going to need a special day of ball striking and getting a number of putts to drop."

VanArragon will golf the third and final round of the NCAA Regional on Wednesday. He will tee off from Hole 1 at 9:23 a.m. CT / 10:23 a.m. ET. A link to live scoring via GolfStat is available on ValpoAthletics.com.
