Alex Heck (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) wasn’t able to close out his high school career in traditional fashion due to the cancellation of the 2020 Indiana High School Athletic Association spring season, but the incoming Valparaiso University men’s golf freshman wrapped up his prep tenure in style this week.

Golfing in the Boys Team State Finals at Ackerman-Allen Course in West Lafayette on Wednesday and Thursday, Heck took medalist honors in a 90-player field. He carded a two-round score of 146 (+2) highlighted by a 72 (E) in Round 2. Heck’s team, “Center Grove Legacy,” took the team title with a two-round score of 618, winning the 10-team event that featured the state’s top talent.

Heck will join head coach Dave Gring’s Valpo program as a freshman this fall.
