Valparaiso University men’s golf junior Anthony Delisanti (Sanborn, N.Y. / Niagara Wheatfield) started the spring season the same way he finished the fall one – earning the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week Award.
Delisanti garnered a top-10 finish in a competitive, 107-player field by tying for fifth in the Dorado Beach Collegiate, which was hosted by UNCG at the par-72, 7112-yard TPC Dorado Beach Sugarcane Course in Dorado, P.R. this week. He finished at 135 (-9) for the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes due to rain. The two rounds that were held were played through rainy conditions. He established new program records for 36-hole tournament score, both overall and in relation to par.
Delisanti carded a 66 in Round 1 and a 69 in Round 2 while draining 10 birdies and boasting the third-highest par-4 scoring average in the tournament at 3.75. His Round-1 score of 66 (-6) tied for the fifth best in relation to par in program history and marked the team’s best 18-hole score by an individual this season. Delisanti’s efforts helped Valpo tie for seventh in a strong 17-team field while breaking program records for 36-hole tournament team score, both overall and in relation to par (557, -19).
This marks Delisanti’s seventh career MVC weekly award and his second this season. Valpo will return to action on Tuesday, March 12 to start the GCU Invitational in Phoenix.
