The Valparaiso University athletic department was recognized with 14 members of the men’s swimming and men’s tennis programs earning places on the 2019-2020 Summit League Academic Honor Roll, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday.

The men’s swimming program boasted seven honorees with freshman Brian Daniels (Brookfield, Wis. / Brookfield East), senior Brendon Johnson (Northbrook, Ill. / Glenbrook North), freshman Ethan Johnson (Ames, Iowa / Ames), senior Joe North (Germantown, Ohio / Valley View), sophomore Rick Renner (Chantilly, Va. / Lake Braddock), freshman Gus Rytting (Houston, Texas / Lamar) and senior Austin Scheer (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) all earning places on the honor roll thanks to their academic success.

The men’s tennis team featured seven players on the honor roll with Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian), Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern), Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic], Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City), Philipp Leithold (Esslingen, Germany / Theordor-Huess Gymnasium), Oscar Mendoza (Guayaquil, Ecuador / Interamerican Academy) and Brian Pecyna (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Homeschooled) all earning the honor.

Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the year awarded to qualify for the Summit League Honor Roll. Valpo competed in the league as an associate member in men’s swimming and men’s tennis during the 2019-2020 season.
